Summer Interpretive Program
Our summer interpretive program features both natural and historical topics and includes a wide variety of program types designed for all sorts of ages and groups. There's something here for everyone!
Designed for our youngest visitors (under 5 years old), these programs encourage nature play and introduce simple natural concepts to children. Fun group activities, stories and songs help toddler to explore and enjoy the natural world around them. Run time: 25 to 35 minutes. This proggram runs Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Nature Centre through July and August. Check our calendar for exact times.
Enjoy an easy walk through various habitats in the park as staff point out unique aspects of a special park species. With a little luck you may also encounter the species through sightings, calls or tracks and signs. Regularly highlighted species include White-tailed Deer, Little Brown Bats, Eastern Coyotes and Owls. Run time: 45 minutes to an hour. Distance: approx. 1 km. These high energy programs are meant for primary school age kids. Using games, hands-on activities, songs, pictures, crafts and more we introduce kids to important natural and historical aspects of the park. Topics change weekly and range from birds to snakes to farming and Victorian school houses and everything in between! Run time: 35 to 45 minutes. Campers and day-use visitors alike love these highly visual programs. Staff use pictures, videos, demonstrations, activities and stories to explore a variety of topics related to Bronte Creek. We like to say “It’s like the Discovery Channel...but live!” Run time: 45 minutes to an hour. This program runs every Saturday night through July and August at the Amphitheatre in the campground. Follow the dulcet tones to the Campground Amphitheater for a night of musical fun! During these programs park staff will lead you on a musical adventure featuring an interesting topic about the park. Bring your singing voice join in. A little shy? We also hand out a limited number of shakers, tambourines and noise makers so everyone can have fun! Run time: 40 to 50 minutes. Discovery programs are perfect for anyone who wants a hands-on experience with nature. These programs can include such themes as a pond study, insect hunt or forest floor ecology. All the nets, tools, containers and information needed will be provided as park naturalists guide you in your exploration. Run time 35 to 45 minutes. Join park heritage staff at Spruce Lane Farm to help out with some historical farm chores. Get behind the scenes and learn firsthand what it was like to care for animals over 100 years ago. Whether you’re collecting eggs or grooming animals, you’re guaranteed a genuine farm experience. Just watch your step! Run time: 35 to 45 minutes. Ask the Ranger
Park staff set up an interactive display highlighting an exciting species found within the park at different areas in the park. This program runs Saturday and Sunday afternoons in July and August. This is a drop-in program – stay for as long or short a time as you want. Check our schedule for specific topics, start times and locations.
Hands on Heritage
Join park heritage staff at Spruce Lane Farm to try your hand at a heritage activity such as wool spinning, weaving and more! What better way is there to learn about history than experiencing it for yourself? Activities include crafts, cooking, games, costumes and more. This is a drop-in program.
