School Programs

Each program can accomodate a maximum of 30 students. Large groups will have to book multiple timeslots. A reservation fee is charged for each program booked. Regular daily vehicle and/or bus permit fees must be paid for on the date of your trip.

Maple Syrup

Discover nature's sweetest treat! Students will explore historical methods of Maple Syrup production pre-1900. During the program students help the tour guide identify sugar maple trees, tap the tree and learn about different historical methods of making maple syrup and sugar

Kindergarten Nature Centre 1/2 hour

Staying Alive

This program is all about inspiring curiosity and getting kids moving! Students will learn about differences between living and non-living things and discover the five things all living things need to survive. Using demonstrations, costumes, puppets and activities the instructor will also introduce the children to some survival strategies used by animals in the park. The program ends with a tour of the Nature Centre's live animal displays and hands-on activities.

Kindergarten Nature Centre 1/2 hour

Games and Toys

Before the time of video games and theme parks, kids found ways to have lots of fun! During this program, students learn about what it would be like to be a kid on the farm a hundred years ago. Activities include action stories and hands-on playtime with some Victorian toys

Spruce Lane Farmhouse

Our Town

What was life like in a late 1890's community? In this program children will take a look at what shops, services and industries made up a historical community and compare it to a present day town. They will create their own Victorian town and engage in games related to historical professions before touring Spruce Lane Farmhouse.

Animal Adaptations

Walk through several habitats and discover the many creatures of Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Students will explore several animal species and their unique adaptations through activities and demonstrations

Traditions and Celebrations

As we explore the differences between traditions and celebrations, students will discover some of the "quirky" traditions Victorians had. Games and activities will help us explore a year of Victorian holidays, before we finish up with a guided tour through Spruce Lane Farmhouse

Nature Centre

Growing Up Wild

Join an instructor for a walk through Maiden's Blush Trail as we discover the many different lifecycles in the animal kingdom. Using props, demonstrations and activities we will explore the lifecycles of insects, mammals, birds and amphibians.

Grade 3 Nature Centre

*Outdoor program 

1 hour

Soils

Using demonstrations, we will discuss the glacial formation of the Bronte Creek valley and the composition of soil. Students will get a chance to dig in the dirt for a hands-on look at how different habitats impact soils as we walk through farm fields, meadows and forest.

Grade 4 Nature Centre

Wetland Explorations

Students will gain an appreciation of Ontario's wetlands in this exciting program. This program includes group activities and hands-on exploration of a pond using nets and buckets. Students will learn about the factors that affect the stability of the wetland habitat and the biodiversity of a healthy wetland.
