Nature Program

Get down and dirty while we observe the different parts of soil and discover how it’s suited for supporting a specialized ecosystems like a tall-grass prairie.

What to expect: The final activity of this program is a seed planting activity. Students will make a compostable pot, pick their seeds and plant them to be grown in their classroom or taken home. The species provided are all native to Ontario’s tall-grass prairies and can be found growing at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. All the materials for this activity will be provided. 

This program is suited for indoor spaces where tables are available.

 

 

 

 

 

Something from Nothing; working in early Ontario

Heritage Program

Early settlers had a lot of hard work ahead of them to establish homes and their careers on the unfamiliar countryside. The environment and settlers needs determined the types of jobs desirable in growing communities. Try your hand at some of the careers early settlers in Ontario would have had that allowed them to shape the land into what we know today. 

Duration: 60 minutes

Capacity: 1 class; up to 30 students

What to expect: Students will get to try some of the different jobs that would have been prominent in Southern Ontario around the late 1800’s. The final activity of this program is an art activity using paint where students will print gift wrap using brayers and block printing techniques. All the materials for this are supplied including washable, non-toxic paint. 

This program is suited for indoor spaces where tables are available.
